Seems like only a couple years ago the non petro based choices were K-Y and house brand knock offs in regular stores and Anal EZ or Slippery Stuff in "adult" stores. Now there are sooo many choices of flavors and "warming agents"

What does Valerie recommend?

My personal preference is Maximus, a water-based lubricant that is readily available in most sex stores.  I've never really cared for KY because of its tendency to dry into something approximating the consistency of Elmer's Glue or rubber cement.  This is my big problem with most lubes, unless you feel like getting out of bed and taking a shower, be prepared to wake up glued to your partner and/or the sheets. Maximus doesn't get near so tacky.

Other good lubes are ID Glide, Body Glide, and yes, Slippery Stuff.

There are a few things to keep in mind when choosing a lubricant.  One is what are you going to use it with.  You shouldn't use silicone-based lubricants with silicone toys, as they will cause degradation of your toys.  There are a variety of very good water-based lubes.

Petroleum-based lubricants are a bad idea.  They aren't water-soluble and are therefore a real pain to clean off, also they erode latex condoms and sex toys.

I had a friend who always used mineral oil, but that was before the proliferation of water-based lubes, which I cannot recommend highly enough.

So, basically, find yourself a good water-based lube.  KY is available in most grocery or drug stores, and it is acceptable, if sticky.  Maximus, ID Glide, and Slippery stuff are available at many adult stores and loads of websites.

Good luck with your lube explorations!
